This PML heavy duty transmission oil pan fits Chrysler/Dodge 68RFE, 66RFE, 65RFE, 545RFE, and 45RFE transmissions. PML designed the pan specifically for trucks and SUVs needing the clearance for skid plates, frame or exhaust.

    Benefits:

    • Finned to dissipate heat from transmission fluid
    • Heavy duty sand cast aluminum construction
    • Drain plug for easier maintenance
    • Thick walls to add strength to the transmission housing
    • Thick gasket flange, machined flat, for a leak-free seal
    • Shaped similar to stock pan to avoid many clearance issues with skid plates, exhaust and frame
    • Stock capacity

PML designed this stock capacity transmission oil pan to replace the stock pan on many configurations of these vehicles with a Chrysler Dodge 45RFE, 545RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE, and 68RFE. Although this transmission pan has the same capacity as the stock pan, the thick walls and fins on the bottom make it larger than stock.

    • Dakota with 4.7 V8, 2000 to 2011
    • Durango with 4.7 or 5.7 V8, 2000 to 2012

    • Ram 1500, 2002 to 2016 (2012 to 2014 4.7l engine trucks check clearance)
    • Ram 2500 and 3500, Hemi engine, 2006 to 2018 (clears the damper on 2012 Ram 2500 with 66RFE, INSTALLATIONS section)
    • Ram 2500 Power Wagon, Hemi engine, 2006 to 2018
    • Ram 2500 and 3500, with 6.7 liter diesel engine, 2007 1/2 and newer (some 3500 trucks may need an AS69RC pan)

    • Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7 or 5.7 V8 engine, 1999 to 2004
    • Jeep Liberty, 2002 to 2004, 3.7 (check clearance, see Jeep Transmission Pan Guidelines web page)
    • Jeep Liberty CRD, 2005 and 2006 (check skid plate)
    • Jeep Wrangler 2010 and 2011 2.8 Diesel (check skid plate)

Configurations vary. Always check your vehicle to verify transmission and clearance. List is not comprehensive and other vehicles may be able to use this pan. This pan will not work on 8 or 9 speed or Aisin transmissions.

2013 and newer diesel engine trucks: cooler lines routed under stock pans on passenger front corner. This pan may not fit. See PML deepest pan part number 11161 which is low in the passenger side, front corner and does clear the cooling lines.

Jeep owners: some Jeeps with these transmissions most likely do not have enough clearance for a larger transmission pan. See our Jeep Transmission Pan Guidelines web page.

Skid Plates: If you have a skid plate, you may need to move it downwards away from the transmission pan. Some Jeeps and a few Dodge vehicles have skid plates that limit clearance.

    2012 Dodge Ram 1500 with 65RFE Transmission

Keith at Forest City Diesel in Missouri installed this transmission pan on a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport Crew Cab. He used a a TRANSTAR fiber gasket P/N 72300F. He report that the install was quick and simple. He torqued the pan bolts to 85 inch pounds and the drain to 20 foot pounds. He re-torqued the pan bolts after the trans went through a heat cycle, but they were fine. Keith summarized his installation with the comment concluded his comments with "Great pan!"

Larry installed this PML transmission pan on his 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 66RFE transmissions. His dealer told him the cylinder on the crossover pipe is a vibration damper to reduce noise. Larry opted to leave the damper in place since this low profile pan provided clearance.

Comparison of PML RFE Transmission Oil Pans

PML makes four pans for the 68RFE, 45RFE, 5-45RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE, 68RFE transmissions. All fit the transmissions. The different designs suit a variety of vehicles and applications.

Inside of pans. Extra capacity pans, PML part numbers 11079, 10304, and 11161 have baffles to reduce sloshing, keep fluid near filter pickup, and act as heat sinks for cooling.

    Filter Information

This pan works with OEM/stock filters.

The filter bolts on to the valve body. No filter support or extension is needed. The fluid will be at the same level with a stock pan as with the PML pan. The filter will pick up from the same place. PML designs pans and covers to work with stock parts without the need for additional modifications or complications.

Thanks to Eric who provided part numbers for filters that will work with all PML Dodge RFE pans:

    • OEM: 5013470AE
    • Fleetguard: TF15072
    • FRAM: FT1223
    • WIX: 58843 (kit)

There was an old style filter from 2002 or 2003 that does NOT work with this pan. We have heard that these filters are obsolete. These filters were called 2WD filters and had a short pick up tube.

    Gasket Information

For a gasket, PML recommends an inexpensive cork or cork composite type gasket. Dodge/Chrysler recommends the Mopar silicon gasket maker, which comes in a tube, for many Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep vehicles. This will also work fine with a PML pan.

An example of a cork gasket is Transmaxx 72300, shown below.

    Bolts

PML includes new mounting bolts with the transmission pan. The PML bolts are longer and the thread diameter and threads per inch are the same. PML bolts are longer since the flange on the PML pan is much thicker than the flange on the stock OEM pan.

Five holes on the transmission are NOT through holes. Check that the PML bolts do not bottom out. This depends on the thickness of the gasket and depth of holes in the housing.

Make sure the holes on the housing are clean and free of debris.

    Inside of Pan

Inside of the pan, there are bosses for the drain hole and an optional temperature sending unit hole.

This is a stock capacity pan so the inside follows the shape of a stock pan.

    Optional Temperature Sending Unit Machining

Optionally, this pan can be machined for a temperature sending unit. There is boss on the driver side of the pan for this.

If you would like PML to drill and tap hole, select the option before adding pan to cart. A plug for the hole is included.

The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Call or email if you need a different size.

PML Transmission Pan Compared to Stock
