Many 1/2 ton GMC and Chevy trucks and SUVs starting in 2009 have a 6 speed 6L80 transmission and can benefit from this PML transmission pan.

    Benefits:

    • Extra capacity
    • Step to clear exhaust routed under rear of transmission pan (loosen pipe to install)
    • Fins and aluminum construction to dissipate heat from transmission fluid
    • Drain and magnetic drain plug for easier maintenance
    • Thick walls to add strength to the transmission housing
    • Thick gasket flange, machined flat, for a leak-free seal

The 6L90 pan is similar in shape but is longer at 18 1/2 inches and is found on 3/4 ton trucks and SUVs.

This extra capacity heavy duty transmission oil pan fits GM 6 speed hydramatic 6L80, 6L80E transmissions. PML designed this pan for 2007 and newer Chevrolet and GM trucks and SUVs, such as these vehicles:

    • Avalanche 1500, 2009 to 2014
    • Escalade, 2007 to 2014 and some 2015 and newer, V8 6.2L
    • Hummer H2, 2008 to 2009, V8 6.2L (if with undercarriage protection, see 6L80 stock capacity pan)

    • Yukon, 2009 to 2014 and some 2015 and newer, V8 5.3L
    • Yukon Denali, 2007 to 2014 and some 2015 and newer, V8 6.2L
    • Yukon XL 1500, 2009 to 2014 and some 2015 and newer, V8 5.3L or V8 6.0L

Trucks and SUVs have a variety of configurations. Look at yours before you order to verify your transmission and clearance.

If you have skid plates, undercarriage protection or require a lower profile pan, check our stock capacity pan for the 6L80, 6L80E.

Note to 2015 and newer vehicle owners: GM introduced an 8 speed transmission in 2015 and a 10 speed in 2019 so check your configuration

Some vehicles have the 4 speed 4L60 transmission and can use PML part number 9427.

Camaro, Corvette, G8, Cadillac cars with the 6L80, 6L80E transmission: please see PML's stock capacity pan, which requires less clearance than this extra capacity pan. It is PML part number 11087.

This pan can be modified for pan filling. Please call or email if you want this deep pan and need to fill through the pan.

Loosening the exhaust pipe for installation: You might need to lower the exhaust cross over pipe to install this pan or do a service with the stock pan. Some customers recommend loosening the exhaust flanges at the manifolds with a crow's foot socket wrench. See Installations.

Truck Trend/RV Magazine Installs PML Transmission Pan and Temperatures Drop

The January/February 2014 Tech & How-To section goes through the installation and testing of a deep PML 6L80 transmission pan on a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. Here's a quote from the end of the article:

"Our testing route took us on a 26-mile loop, up and down 6-percent grades the whole way. On the final hill where we noted our temperatures it takes about 10 minutes to reach the summit at 55mph. Before the PML pan, our transmission temperature measured 159 degrees at the base of the hill and 210 degrees at the top. Once over the top and coasting down the backside, the temperature continued to rise, hitting 218 degrees before starting to cool down five or six minutes later. With the PML pan, our temperature was 160 degrees at the base and 192 degrees at the summit. That’s a pretty decent difference, but what was really fun was how quickly it cooled back down. Almost immediately after cresting the hill, the temp began to drop, more than 5 degrees in about a minute. Impressive."

    2014 Silverado 1500 V6

Ian Macdonald at Dark Side Oils in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, installed this PML pan on his 2014 Silverado 1500 with the V6 engine. He had these comments about the installation and temperature readings:

" Just wanted you to know that I installed my new 11025 trans pan on my 2014 Silverado 2wd with 4.3 V6 and there are no interference issues whatsoever. There is plenty of clearance between the tranny and the exhaust crossover making this install a breeze. BTW as other reviews have stated this pan is awesome, well made, very solid and looks great!!"

" I was able to do a before and after driving comparison as well. As it happened I had to drive 180kms one way and had the cruise set at 115 kph (approx. 70 mph) with outside temp (as displayed on my DIC) of 9 deg C for the whole trip. Terrain was southern Ontario were things are fairly flat. Trans fluid temp was 88 deg C and steady for the last hour of the trip. I then changed the pan and refilled with 7.6 qts of AMSOIL Trans Fluid. My return trip the next day on the same route and distance at the same 115 kph set on the cruise control and ambient temp was now 12 deg C. The tranny ran at a steady 85 deg C for the last hour of this return trip. In both cases there were no stops. Considering the ambient temp was 3 deg warmer and the fluid was 3 deg cooler the net differential was 6 deg C (10.8 deg F). Not bad at all I’d say!!!"

    2011 Avalanche

Steve installed this pan on his 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ 4WD 5.3 liter with a 6L80E transmission. The first image shows the stock pan and the exhaust crossover pipe. The center and right images show the PML pan installed. Steve loosened both exhaust flanges at the manifolds to allow the exhaust crossover pipe to drop down about a half an inch. This provided room for removing the stock pan and installing the PML pan. He captured 5.3 quarts of fluid and refilled with 8 quarts. Steve said "The fit and finish of your pans are incredible. I followed the instructions provided and reused the silicone gasket from the stock pan."

    2008 Cadillac Escalade 6.2L

A hot climate and harsh driving conditions led Ahmad to look for a pan to cool the transmission fluid in his 2008 Escalade 6.2. Although the polish finish pan is usually only for show trucks, it does look great on this daily driver. Our thanks to Ahmad for choosing a PML pan and for the pictures.

    2007 Cadillac Escalade

Dave installed our 6L80 transmission pan on his 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT AWD, 6.2 liter engine. He got the pan in the cast finish then painted it engine semi gloss black and sanded off the high points. For the installation, the exhaust had to be off the manifolds on both sides to get clearance for the pan. For the stock pan, only the right side needed to be off. He used the stock reusable gasket. He saw a temperature drop of 10F, no towing, no other modifications.

PML transmission pans work with stock filters, easily available from your favorite auto parts store.

Because the pan is deeper than stock, the pan has filter supports cast in. The transmission fluid is at the same level with a PML pan as with the stock pan.

The stock GM filter is "GM Part No. 24236517" and the AC Delco box has part number "24236933".

PML designed this pan to accommodate the reusable factory gasket. Please make sure the gasket is clean and free of any holes or nicks to avoid leaks.

The gasket has two bumps to orient the gasket on the pan and hold it in place during installation.

    Optional Temperature Sending Unit Machining

Temperature sending unit machining for PML pan for GM 6L80E transmission  Click on image to view larger.

Optionally, PML can drill and tap a 1/8 NPT hole for a temperature sending unit. This would be for an aftermarket temperature gage. There is a custom machining charge.

Three bosses (thick areas) are provided that can be machined. One location is on the driver or left side and the other two are on the passenger or right side.

Select the option before adding pan to cart. A plug for the hole is included.

The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Check your aftermarket gage to verify the thread specifications for the sending unit before ordering. Call or email if you need a different size.

    Drain Plug and Bolts

The drain is on the driver/left side as shown in this image. The hole is at the bottom of the pan for thorough draining and on the side to avoid road hazards.

The pan includes a magnetic drain plug and mounting bolts.
