    • Check your vehicle for a cable bracket on the stock pan. There are different types of cable brackets that attached to the pan flange. Because of the thick walls on this PML pan, some brackets may be difficult or impossible to use with this pan.

Pan includes magnetic drain plug and mounting hardware.
Price varies with finish. SEE PRODUCT INFO.

This PML transmission pan fits the GM 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E transmissions.

PML designed this pan as a heavy duty, extra capacity replacement for the GM shallow pan that came with vehicles model year 1998 and older and a few vehicles, such as Camaro and Firebird up to 2002.

A stock GM shallow pan and a stock GM deep pan are shown in the picture below.

    Benefits:

    • Extra capacity, 4 quarts over stock
    • Drain hole and magnetic drain plug for easy fluid changes
    • Finned for cooling
    • Heavy duty sand cast aluminum construction
    • Machined flat gasket sealing surface
    • Can optionally be machined for a temperture sending unit

PML designed this pan as a heavy duty, extra capacity replacement for the GM shallow pan that came with vehicles model year 1998 and older and a few newer vehicles.

Note there are two versions of the stock GM shallow pan. They have the same depth. The older version is primarily found on 700R4 transmissions. This PML pan, part number 8650-1, can replace either style GM shallow pan.

Always check your truck, SUV, or van to see which stock pan you have and look for clearance with exhaust, drive shaft and frame cross members.

Newer vehicles: exhaust or frame cross members run under the pan and our part number 9427 is designed with a step for clearance on those vehicles.

Drive Shaft: Some of these vehicles may have the drive shaft too close to the stock pan to allow for thicker walls of the PML pan. Check the location of your drive shaft before ordering. This shows the drive shaft on a 1986 K10 4x4 with a 700 R4:
\\ Drive shaft and 700r4 transmission pan

Bell Housing: Some of these vehicles have the bell housing close to the transmission pan and material must be removed from the leading edge of the PML pan so it fits and the bolt holes line up. This picture is from a 1994 Suburban Installation.

    2001 Chevy S10

Dean installed this pan on his 2001 Chevy S10 2WD 3 Door Extended Cab pick up. The cross member was far enough away that this deep PML pan fit without any clearance issues.

To attach the shifter cable bracket, Dean drilled and tapped into the side of the PML pan using M6x1.0 bolts and used RTV sealant. He reported no leaks and the shifter working OEM smooth and calibrated.

1994 GMC Suburban K1500, Pan Needed Modification

Dave installed this transmission pan on his 1994 GMC Suburban 5.7L SLE K1500. He loves the pan, but did have to take off a moderate amount at the front edge (near bell housing) to fit and align bolt holes. See picture with him pointing to specific area. There were no other fitment or clearances issues. Plenty of clearance around trans crossmember, driveshaft and exhaust.

PML Pan on 1986 K10 Too Close to Drive Shaft

Justin installed this PML pan on his 1986 GMC K-10 4x4 with the 700R4 transmission and the New Process NP 208 transfer case. The factory drive shaft with the 2 inch tube comes quite close to the stock pan. Because the PML pan has thick walls, the space between the PML pan and the drive shaft is about 0.06 inches. This is too close.

Justin also let us know that this PML pan fits just fine with the factory exhaust on a 305 V8 bu the pipes had to be dropped to install the pan.

    Filter Information

PML designed this pan to work with the 700R4 and 4L60E filters that fit the stock GM shallow pan. Please see our Filter Guide for PML Part Number 8650-1.

    • Filter Supports: The filter supports are the three cylinders in the middle of the pan on the inside. These filter supports are designed for the 700R4 and "shallow" 4L60E filters.
    • Drain: The drain is on the driver's side. A magnetic drain plug is included with the pan.
    • Optional Temperature Sending Unit Machining: Optionally, this pan can be drilled and tapped for an aftermarket temperature gage sending unit. Details:
      • There is a machining charge for pans ordered with a hole machined. A plug is included.
      • Two bosses on the passenger side can be machined.
      • One boss on the driver side can be machined.
      • The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Call or email if you need a different size.

    Gasket

PML recommends a cork or cork composite gasket for use with our GM 700R4, 4L60 transmission pans. Any brand of cork/cork composite gasket is good as long as it is about 0.100 inch thick.

Here is an example of one from Mahle, available at RockAuto.com. The Mahle part number is W39365.

    Shift Cable Mounting Bracket

You may have to modify the cable mounting bracket to use this pan. Some brackets and cabling do not work at all with this pan. The flange and walls on the PML pan are thick so modification may be needed. Check carefully before ordering.

This article from Vette magazine show an example of a modification for a 700 R4 shift cable bracket.
