What does PML make?

PML designs, manufactures and sells sand cast aluminum differential covers, transmission pans, and valve covers for the automotive aftermarket. This is our official website, yourcovers.com. You can purchase directly from us online or over the phone or we have a network of dealers and shops from which you can purchase our products. We also have a few related accessories for our products.

Where are PML products made?

All PML products are made in the USA. Specifically, PML designs and manufactures in Southern California.

Where can I find installation instructions for my product?

Contact PML and we can email them to you. See Contact Us.

What are the torque specifications for my bolts?

The torque specs are in the installation instructions. If you do not have the installation instructions, contact PML. See Contact Us.

What are the thread specifications for the drain plug and washer?

Most PML transmission pans and differential covers use a magnetic drain plug with 1/2-20 threads. This drain plug has a 9/16 inch hex head. The length of the threads as measured from under the head to the last thread is approximately 0.50 inch. The length from under the head to the tip of the magnet is approximately 1.0 inch. Overall length is about 1.3 inch. We use a couple different washers with the 1/2-20 drain plug. They are at least 1/2 inch ID and less than 1 inch OD. Approximately inner diameter 0.5 to 0.56, outer diameter 0.86 to 0.88, and thickness 0.05 to 0.06. This washer is reusable. Between uses rub both sides on 100 grit sand paper and wipe clean. For our customers who prefer a crush washer, try Dorman oil drain plug gasket, Dorman part number 097-027. Some PML pans and covers use a 3/8 NPT magnetic drain plug with a 5/16 socket head. Total length is 0.65 inches and the magnet is 0.2 inches long.

What filters should be used with PML transmission pans?

PML pans are designed to work with OEM stock filters. If the filter does not bolt onto the valve body, the PML pan has fingers or posts that are part of the floor of the pan which rise up to the height of the stock pan and hold the filter in place. The advantage of this design is that it allows you to have the cooling of additional oil capacity while using the readily available stock filter. Some have asked whether this arrangement will end up leaving a stagnant layer of oil in the bottom of the pan. There is plenty of mixing going on with oil being sucked out by the filter, returned from the oil cooler, and the movement of the vehicle that this is not the case. PML designs our pans so that the original fluid dynamics of the transmission are not changed. The fluid level and pick are at the same place with a PML pan as with the OEM stock pan. A filter extension can require more effort to suck fluid into the transmission. Custom filter extensions can be difficult to replace and can break or leak. PML transmission pans avoid these problems.

What kind of gasket should I use with my PML pan or cover?

This depends on the PML product. The SPECIFICATIONS section of the product web page has details about the gasket needed or contact PML for help.

What is sand cast aluminum?

Aluminum is a metal that provides a high strength-to-weight ratio and provides for good heat transfer so our pans and covers are strong and help cool your oil. Sand casting is the process of pouring molten metal into a mold to create one thick, solid heavy duty part. Many other covers and pans are die-cast or stamped. These would not be heavy duty because those processes produce thin walls. Stamped parts especially can be prone to tweaking and bending. Plus sand cast aluminum parts look good. Many believe that sand castings more closely replicate an original, classic look than die-cast or stamped parts. Sand castings have a rough surface finish, like the texture of sand. Because the surface is not smooth, there is more surface area. A larger surface area allows better and faster thermal dissipation.

Will my fluid temperature drop?

PML does not guarantee a drop in fluid temperature. Many of our customers report drops in fluid temperatures with an average of 5 to 10 degrees cooler. Fluid temperatures depend on many variables: vehicle configuration, driving conditions, weather, the stress on the transmission. It also depends on where the temperature is checked. Some customers report temperature drops only when they are towing or hauling. Some report the fluid temperature has a much quicker recovery to lower fluid temperatures after climbing a hill. If your temperature was normal before installing a PML pan, it could be similar after because that is the optimum operating temperature and the system will keep the fluid at that normal temp. Because of all these variables, there is no guarantee.

Does PML have a store?

No, but we are happy to have visitors with appointments. If you are in the LA area and want to pick up an order in person, call us. We will take your order over the phone, verify the part is in stock, and schedule a pick up time. By setting a time we know when to listen for you knocking since our doors are locked. Generally, we set appointments between 9am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Does PML sell and ship internationally?

Yes. Please see our guidelines for International Customers.

Do you have free shipping?

We do not offer free shipping. The shipping cost varies with the address and size of the purchase. For more information, see the Shipping and Return Policy.

Will a part fit my vehicle?

All PML products are larger than the factory stock parts and vehicle configurations vary so PML cannot guarantee fitment. Each product web page provides detailed specifications and measurements to allow the customer to determine if a product will fit.

Can I get a custom cover or pan? For example, a cover or pan with my company name on it?

For 1 customized cover or pan, PML does not do engraving and our manufacturing process is not for one-off individualized products. One way to customize is to purchase a part in the natural as cast finish then paint or powder coat it a custom color. If you are interested in 100 or more customized pans or covers, let us know!
