There is extra material on top of both valve covers around the fins and the script.
On one valve cover the extra material is mostly on the script at the CHE and LET. This is the top cover in the photo.
On the other valve cover, the extra material is mostly near the OLET and on the fin below. This is the cover in the bottom of the photo.

These valve covers have been machined for PCV, breather and oil fill holes. See this PDF for information on how these valve covers are machined.
A gasket is available.
