- Drain hole and magnetic drain plug for easier maintenance
For information on differences between AOD, AODE, 4R70 (4R70W , 4R70E), and 4R75 (4R75W, 4R75E) transmissions, click here.
The AOD transmission needs a different pan. PML part number 9324-1 is for the older AOD transmission. The bolt hole pattern is different.
This transmission pan fits the AODE, 4R70 (4R70W , 4R70E), and 4R75 (4R75W, 4R75E) transmission. These transmissions are found on 1992 to 2005 Ford trucks, SUVs, cars, and vans.
If your vehicle has the stock pan with the bump that hangs down in the middle, the PML deep transmission pan, Part Number 9685-2, may fit. The stock pan with the bump is sometimes called the "4WD" transmission pan even thought is was used on 4WD and 2WD vehicles.
Since this is a stock capacity pan, it has more ground clearance than a deep transmission pan. Examples of vehicles that might have ground clearance limitations and need a stock capacity pan:
- 1996 to 2004 Ford Mustang
- 1994 to 1997 Ford Thunderbird
- 1993 to 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
- 1993 to 2004 Lincoln Town Car
- 1994 to 1997 Mercury Cougar
- 1995 to 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis
- 2003 Mercury Marauder
Usually, F150 trucks, Explorer and Expedition SUVs, and Crown Victoria cars have plenty of ground clearance for the PML deep pan, part number 9685-2.
Vehicle configurations vary so always check to verify the transmission and space available for a larger transmission pan
.On applications where the exhaust is routed close to the passenger side of the trans pan (Mustang and some others), please check to be sure there is room for the drain plug boss. The drain plug is on the passenger side of the pan, and the boss sticks out almost as far as the gasket flange.

Mike's Trick Shift in Weatherford, Texas, uses both PML deep and stock capacity pans on the 4R70 transmissions they build
Filter and Gasket
PML designs our pans to work with easily available filters and gaskets. PML does not sell filters or gaskets for this transmission.
Gasket: A paper, cork, or cork composite gasket will work well with our pan. Some PML customers like X AUTOHAUX F2VY-7A191-A 4R70W gasket. This is found on line, on Ford parts sites and Amazon.
Filter Requirement: You must use a 2WD AODE filter with this pan. 4WD AODE and all 4R70 filters will not fit.
Customers have reported to us that Motocraft FT 100 and ATP FT–118 filter kit work great with this pan, PML part number 9324-2, for the AODE, 4R70E, 4R70W, 4R75E, 4R75W transmission.
Optional Temperature Sending Unit Machining
Optionally, this pan can be machined for a temperature sending unit. There is a boss on the passenger/right side of the pan for this.
If you would like PML to drill and tap hole, the machining charge is per hole. A plug for the hole is included.
The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Call or email if you need a different size.
