Volume: 1.5 qts. over stock

Dimensions: Click here for dimensions. The distance from the flange surface to the inside bottom of the pan is approximately 2.75 inches. This is the same as the stock pan so the bottom of the pan supports the filter.

Number of Bolts: 17

This PML pan fits GM and Chevrolet 1996 and older vehicles with the 4L80E and 4L85E transmission. PML also makes a deeper pan with more capacity for these applications. See part number 9167 for information on that pan.

This pan can be used on 1997 and newer vehicles if there is enough clearance between frame cross member and stock pan. Most 1997 and newer vehicles do not have enough clearance and need the late model pan. Part number 9437 provides clearance for the exhaust but will not clear the transmission internals on the early models.

This pan can fit on 1993 to 1996 H1 Hummers, but the frame cross member is very close and you will need to check the drain plug location. On a previous revision of this pan, the drain plug was on the bottom, which required a hole to be cut in the frame cross member to allow the pan to drain. The drain plug is now on the side and may be easier to access.

Jaguar XJS models with the 4L80 transmission have a stock pan specific to the Jaguar. PML does not make a replacement pan for the Jaguar XJS 4L80 stock pan.

Drain Hole and Location for Temperature Sending Unit

Image at right shows the rear and driver's side of the pan where the drain hole is located. All pans include a magnetic drain plug along with the mounting bolts.

On the passenger's side, the pan has a location that can be machined for an aftermarket temperature gage or sensor. The location is a circular boss and it can accommodate between 1/8 NPT and 1/2 NPT. PML can drill and tap a hole to order for a $45 machining charge.

Both GM early model and late model filters should work with this transmission pan. The bottom of the PML pan is at the same place as the bottom of the stock pan.

Cable Bracket on Stock Pan

Some stock pans have a bracket for the shift cable assembly attached to the flange.

Our customer Darrell provided these Guidelines for Modifying the Bracket to work with the PML pan.

1967 Chevrolet Nova SS

PML Transmission Pan Features

  • Increased oil capacity for cooler temperatures
  • Sand-cast aluminum with raised fins
  • 3/16-inch thick wall construction to add strength to the transmission case
  • 3/8-inch thick gasket flange will not bend when bolts are tightened
  • Machined gasket surface for a secure seal

All PML transmission pans ship with new mounting bolts and a magnetic drain plug.
