Volume: stock capacity compared to stock GM shallow pan
Dimensions: Click here for dimensions.
Number of Bolts: 16
This PML pan fits 700R4, 4L60, and 4L60E transmissions. GM and Chevy use these transmissions in many cars and trucks. This stock capacity pan works well on vehicles with limited clearance, like Corvette and Camaro. The 700R4 is also a popular aftermarket replacement transmission.
PML designed this pan as a stock capacity, heavy duty replacement for the GM shallow pan that came with vehicles model year 1998 and older and a few vehicles, such as Camaro and Firebird up to 2002.
A stock GM shallow pan and a stock GM deep pan are shown in the picture below.
Note the differences in depth and the step at back of the GM Deep Pan. (Click on image to view larger.)
Benefits:
- Drain hole and magnetic drain plug for easy fluid changes
- Finned for cooling
- Only 1/2 inch deeper than stock to maintain ground clearance
- Heavy duty sand cast aluminum construction
- Machined flat gasket sealing surface
- Can optionally be machined for a temperture sending unit

Note there are two versions of the stock GM shallow pan. They have the same depth. The older version is primarily found on 700R4 transmissions. This PML pan can replace either style GM shallow pan.

PML also makes an extra capacity pan for this transmission (see our deep pan or deep pan with step).
If you have a Corvette, PML also makes transmission pans for C5 (PML part number 8650-3) and C6 Corvettes (PML part number 11087) and valve covers with CORVETTE script for small and big block Chevy engines.
This PML transmission pan has been installed on many Camaro, Corvette, and custom hot rods. Our thanks to those who have emailed us images.

Optional Temperature Sending Unit Machining
Optionally, PML can drill and tap a 1/8 NPT hole for a temperature sending unit. This would be for an aftermarket temperature gage. There is a custom machining charge.
There is a location on the passenger/right side of the pan for this purpose. Select the option before adding pan to cart. A plug for the hole is included. The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Check your aftermarket gage to verify the thread specifications for the sending unit before ordering. Call or email if you need a different size.
Filter Information
PML designed this pan to work with the 700R4, 4L60 and 4L60E filters that fit the stock GM shallow pan. Please see our Filter Guide for PML Part Number 9297.
Shift Cable Mounting Bracket
You may have to modify your shift cable mounting bracket to use this pan. If the trans pan mounting bolts hold the shift cable bracket on, please reference this article from Vette magazine for details.
Gasket
PML recommends a cork or cork composite gasket for use with our GM 700R4, 4L60 transmission pans. Any brand of cork/cork composite gasket is good as long as it is about 0.100 inch thick.
Here is an example of one from Mahle, available at RockAuto.com.
The Mahle part number is W39365.

Drain Hole

The drain hole is located on the driver/left side of the transmission pan. A magnetic drain plug is included.
PML located the drain on the side of the pan since a drain plug is more protected from bumps and scrapes on the side than on the bottom.
