Volume: 2 1/2 to 3 quarts over stock

Dimensions: Click here for dimensions in a new tab or window. The truck stock pan is about 3 1/2 inches deep so the PML pan is about 3 inches deeper than the stock pan. Note that the 6L80 transmission pan is similar in shape but the 6L80 is shorter at 17 1/2 inches.

Number of Bolts: 18 (there are 20 holes, 2 holes locate the gasket and 18 holes for bolts to hold the pan to the transmission case)

Description and Applications

PML designed this pan for 2007 and newer heavy duty Chevrolet and GM trucks and SUVs. This pan features:

  • Extra capacity, fins and aluminum construction to dissipate heat from transmission fluid
  • Drain plug for easier maintenance
  • Thick walls to add strength to the transmission housing
  • Thick gasket flange, machined flat, for a leak-free seal
  • Step in the back to clear exhaust

This pan fits the GM 6L90, 6L90E transmission, typically found on these vehicles:

  • Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD, 6.0L, 2007 to 2015
  • Sierra 2500 and 3500 HD, 6.0L, 2007 to 2015
  • Tahoe 6.0L, not hybrid, 6.0L, some models starting in 2008
  • Yukon HD, 6.0L, not hybrid, 6.0L, some models starting in 2008
  • Express Van 2500 and 3500, 4.8L or 6.0L, 2010 to 2015
  • Savana Van 2500 and 3500, 4.8L or 6.0L, 2010 to 2015

Trucks and SUVs have a variety of configurations. Look at yours before you order to verify your transmission and clearance. Vans especially should check for clearance.

Cadillac CTS-V, 2009 to 2015, and some new CTS and Camaro ZL1 models have the 6L90 transmission. This pan will fit the transmission but is probably too deep to maintain clearance. We are considering a low profile, stock capacity pan for the 6L90. Also, some of these vehicles need a fill hole on the pan. Let us know if you are interested.

In many cases, you will need to drop the exhaust to install this pan. You would need to drop the exhaust to service the transmission with the stock pan as three bolts are not otherwise accessible. See installation images below that show the routing of the exhaust.

Filter and Gasket Information

PML transmission pans work with stock filters, easily available from your favorite auto parts store.

Customers have told us that the stock GM filter is "GM Part No. 24236517" and the AC Delco box has part number "24236933".

This image shows the inside of the PML pan.

Because the pan is deeper than stock, the pan has filter supports cast in. A deeper filter or extension is not needed since the transmission fluid is at the same level with a PML pan as with the stock pan.

This transmission pan works with stock gaskets.

PML designed this pan to accommodate the reusable factory gasket. Please make sure the gasket is clean and free of any holes or nicks to avoid leaks.

Machining for Temperature Sensors

Three bosses are provided that can be machined for use with aftermarket sensors and gages. If you would like PML to drill and tap a boss, the machining charge is $40 . The bosses can accommodate 1/8 NPT to 1/2 NPT. Let us know which location you prefer and what size to machine. The bosses can also be used as alternate drain plug locations.

Drain Plug and Bolts

This pan includes a magnetic drain plug and mounting bolts.

The drain is on the driver's side.

Stock Pans

The 6L90 transmission has two stock pans that we know of. In this picture, the truck pan is on the left and the Cadillac CTS-V pan is on the right. The Cadillac pan has a fill hole. Call or email PML if you need a fill hole on our pan.

The PML pan is about 3 inches deeper than the stock truck pan.

This pan cannot be modified for pan filling. Some of our prototype pans did have the option. If you need to fill through the pan, please call or email us (contact info at bottom of page).

PML Transmission Pan on 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 6.0

Jim installed this PML transmission pan on his 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 6.0 4WD with an aftermarket exhaust y-pipe. He reported that the install was fairly straightforward, with very close clearance for the stock pan removal and PML pan install because of the y-pipe. He removed the shield, to the right of the pan and mounts onto the transmission itself, to install the PML pan. Removing this shield gave him more clearance to come in from the side and slide the pan in.

Jim noted that ground clearance with the PML pan is not affected at all. It is above the front cross member and above the torsion bars (from the side).

Our thanks to Jim for his pictures and feedback. These images show, from left to right: 2011 Silverado, view from passenger's side of PML pan installed, view from rear of truck showing clearance with PML pan installed

Jason installed this PML transmission pan on his 2010 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0. This picture shows the PML pan installed and the stock pan sitting on the ground.

Jason reported temperature drops from 160–190 to 148–178 when towing a 6,700 pound trailer. He also sees lower temperatures during his daily drive. Read Jason's review of our pan here, in this PDF file.

PML Transmission Pan on a 2010 GMC Box Truck

GMC Box Truck G33503 getting ready for a PML GM 6L90 transmission pan installation

Paul installed a PML 6L90 pan on his 2010 GMC G33503 Box Truck. He documented his installation with pictures in this PDF file: PML 6L90 Transmission Pan Installation

Our thanks to Paul for his great write-up. Paul used a mini vice grip to access bolts above the exhaust. Another suggestion for difficult to access bolts would be to cut down an allen wrench to fit.

PML Transmission Pan Features

  • Increased oil capacity for cooler temperatures
  • Sand-cast aluminum with raised fins
  • 3/16-inch thick wall construction to add strength to the transmission case
  • 3/8-inch thick gasket flange will not bend when bolts are tightened
  • Machined gasket surface for a secure seal
  • Boss cast into pan can be machined for a temperature sensor
  • Drain hole and magnetic drain plug for easier, less messy maintenance

All PML transmission pans ship with new mounting bolts and a magnetic drain plug.

If you would like PML to machine your pan for a temperature sending unit, there is an additional charge of $40.
